Did you ever think it would be awesome to crush someone’s trachea using only your mind?  Of course.  Well this fantasy football auction article won’t teach you that but it will hopefully help you crush your fantasy football auction league which may or may not be as cool. Here are some tips to help you get in the heads of your opponents.

Talk Fantasy Football Auctions All Year

We always say that you should never stop gathering information about NFL players.  You don’t just have to be in a dynasty league to be able to absorb football knowledge twelve months out of the year.  This goes towards your league mates as well.  Accumulating information doesn’t just mean reading articles online.  Every time you see the guys you draft with you should find time to talk football.  I mean real NFL football.  Free agent moves, coaching changes and NFL team needs are all things that every football fan has an interest in year round, and more importantly, they form an opinion on.  Those opinions are what you are after.

Josh Hill – Fantasy Football

For example, maybe you bump into your brother-in-laws co-worker at a kids birthday party because your 8-year-old daughters play on the same soccer team.  He was asked to jump into your home league at the last minute two years ago because the league lost a guy unexpectedly.  Normally you would avoid this guy at all costs if you ran into him in public but now you have a prime opportunity to pick his brain about his thoughts on some of his football preferences towards the upcoming NFL season which is still a couple months away.  You realize, that like a good interrogator, all you have to do is get this guy talking and he will end up divulging all kinds of useful tidbits you can use against him in the future.  Maybe he mentions how he thinks the Saints offense won’t miss a beat without Jimmy Graham and Kenny Stills so you know this guy may value Drew Brees, CJ Spiller and Josh Hill higher than most, not to mention Brandin Cooks.  Now you are free to keep this information to yourself or share it strategically with one or more of your league mates.  Maybe you try and incite a bidding war for some of these players by leaking this information closer to your draft to other league mates who, through some sleuthing, also like some of these Saints players.  The important thing to remember here is you have to keep your ears open at all times and absorb all these interesting factoids you may come across in the casual conversations you might have while waiting on the tee box for the foursome of geriatrics ahead of you or when enjoying a cold beverage after your slo pitch game.  Nominate some of these players early in your auction draft or bid up some of these players knowing that guys in your league will come over the top without hesitation which will then lead us to the next point.
